If you ever hope to make a profit selling your app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, you need to submit it to the App Store. Apple’s online mega mall has millions of visitors each week. Many of them come ready to purchase any app they find that meets their needs.
If your app is high quality and your submission to the App Store is strong, you can reap the benefits of this popular marketplace. Sell to the millions who visit and make your app a bestseller – that’s the goal.
When you’re planning to submit an app, you need to have a plan. Without a plan, you’re throwing your app to the wind and hoping someone will see it.
It is far better to know where your app is going and plan for its landing. You need to decide what keywords are best for your app to target. You need to have effective and eye-catching screenshots of your app in action. You should gather testimonials from satisfied users (even beta testers) if possible.
Just as important as the content of your app is the price you set in the App Store. What is the market like for apps like yours? Is there a competitor of yours offering an over-priced app, or are similar apps free?
You cannot price your app over the competition unless you have a compelling reason, but at the same time, you won’t make much of a profit by giving it away. You need to find the right balance that your customers are willing to pay.
To learn more about the appropriate pricing of your app, check out our free e-book, “App Profits Roadmap“. With a few of our tips, you can start making profits the day your app goes live. Following all of them, you can start climbing to the top of the bestsellers list.

Awesome post! One more thing I would mention is that you ALWAYS want to set your release date in iTunes Connect to a future date far in the future when you submit your app for Apple’s approval. That way it doesn’t get released as soon as Apple approves it. The reason you don’t want it released as soon as Apple approves it is that Apple could approve it in the middle of the day – then you just lost half the “splash” of having your app launch that day. Instead, once your app is approved, you can move the release date to the next day or whenever you want it!
