Retailers have ‘black Friday’, the day after thanksgiving in the US, as their day to rack up sales when customers mob their stores. Not many iPhone app developers know it, but they have a special day all their own – December 25, Christmas Day, as well as the days following it. Find out why and learn what you can do to maximize your sales on this mega-shopping day.</p>

What makes this the perfect time to have your app in the App Store? Gadgets like the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad are popular gifts (especially the iPad this year!). Once people unwrap their new devices, one of the first things they want to do is download new apps for it. That’s a big part of the fun of a new iPhone or iPad – getting the latest apps to see what this new toy can do.</p>

<p>Thank you to everyone who took the survey &#8211; many more of you turned out than we ever expected. It is clear that marketing your iPhone app is not easy and just putting it in the App Store is not enough to guarantee a profit.</p>
<p>Here are the challenges app developers like you say they are facing:</p>

<li><strong>Coming up with ideas for an app that sells</strong> &#8211; How do I know if my idea for an app is a good one? That is what one developer asked, and we know many of you are feeling the same. Before you put in the time to create your app, you want to be sure it is an idea that your customers will <em>love</em>.</li>
<li><strong>Creating a marketing plan that gets big results (without a big budget</strong>) &#8211; Several people said they were overwhelmed with promoting their apps. There are just so many possibilities &#8211; search engine marketing, Twitter, yelling from the rooftops &#8211; that many developers said they did not know where to start.</li>
<li><strong>Submitting your app to review sites and getting published</strong> &#8211; We heard from many developers that their top frustration is submitting their apps for review and hearing nothing back. Or worse, just getting a canned email response that &#8220;we&#8217;ll get back to you&#8221;.</li>
<li><strong>Overcoming frustration at low sales </strong>- &#8220;I haven&#8217;t sold a single app&#8221; several people said. Others have tried everything but cannot break into the Top 100. <p>There is one thing that smart iPhone app developers know that can help you boost your sales, too: always include customer quotes and expert reviews in your description. In fact, put the quotes at the top of your description in the App Store.</p>
<p>Your audience wants to know if your app is worth buying, and testimonials and quotes are the best way to prove to them they can trust the quality of your product. For example, if a popular iPhone blog reviewed your app and loved it, include a quote and say what site it is from. Also use a quote you received from a real customer &#8211; maybe in an email you received or even on Twitter.</p>
<p>If you do not have great quotes yet, submit it to app review sites and ask your customers what they think. Choose a few of the best quotes that say something specific and unique about your app rather than just &#8220;best app ever!&#8221; You are letting your customers sell your app for you through their testimonials.</p>
